As the gateway of the Sauk River Chain of Lakes, Cold Spring offers a multitude of activities on the water, including boating and fishing. Launch your boat to discover the extensive Chain of Lakes that's an interconnected system of 14 bay-like lakes fed and connected by the Sauk River.

Cold Springs now claims over 30 resorts within a ten-mile radius, most of which are on the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes. The town has been actively working with state officials and other interested parties since the mid-1980s to improve water quality and maintain a productive fishery. With such an impressive amount of shoreline, a variety of resorts, and great fishing it's clear why people choose this area for their boating destination.

Lions Park - Sauk River

To get out on the Chain of Lakes, there's a convenient boating access in Lions Park right in Cold Spring. Lions Park is nestled close to the banks of the Sauk River just off Highway 23. It's an inviting spot for travelers and residents alike as there's ample parking with tons of room to run and play for the kids.

Visitors looking to get out on the lake are welcomed to use the boat landing as well as the fishing pier, both provide fine fishing along the Sauk River.

The park was recently redesigned to include an expanded and more user-friendly parking lot and boat landing. The new lot has additional and newly designed parking spaces for trucks with boats and trailers attached. The boat landing has received a second set of concrete ramps to enable two boaters to use the landing at the same time. The access lane to the landing was widened and the lanes striped to allow for better traffic flow to and from the landing. If you're looking to get on the Chain near Cold Spring, this is the place!

Don't have a motorized watercraft? No problem! Frogtown Park, also in Cold Spring, offers a canoe/kayaking launch from which you can travel downstream all the way to St Cloud. This is the perfect all-day activity for those muggy summer days.

Rockville Lake Park

If you're not looking for quite as long of a trip on the water, consider launching from Rockville Lake Park in Rockville, only a few miles east of Cold Spring. This park boasts amazing hiking and horse riding trails around the lake as well as campground sites for canoers and kayakers alike. These features make it one of the best places to launch or stop on the Sauk River as you continue on your river adventure.

Grand Lake - Rockville

Grand Lake is another beautiful lake to boat on, being conveniently located near County Rd. 8, just 2 miles south of Rockville, MN. Grand Lake's boating access is on the south side of the lake. Many local activities take place on or near Grand Lake during the summer, making this a hot destination for visitors who are looking for some fun on their boats.
